Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Patterns iOS and iPadOS app and the trypatterns.app website (together, the "Service"), operated by Patterns ("we," "us," "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
Patterns is a habit-tracking application. It provides reminders, streak tracking, and progress visualizations based on habits you define yourself, informed by published research on habit formation. Patterns is a productivity and lifestyle tool — it is not medical, psychological, or professional advice, and it is not a substitute for guidance from a qualified professional, particularly for habits related to health, medication adherence, or mental health.
2. Eligibility and Apple's terms
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. Your use of the app is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA), which applies in addition to these Terms; where these Terms conflict with Apple's EULA regarding Apple's own obligations, Apple's terms control.
3. Subscriptions and billing
Patterns is free to download. Certain features ("Patterns Pro") require a paid, auto-renewing subscription, billed and managed entirely through your Apple ID / App Store account:
- Patterns Pro (Annual): $79.99 per year, with a 2-week free trial for new subscribers.
- Patterns Pro (Monthly): $9.99 per month.
Prices are shown in USD and may vary by region per Apple's pricing. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew for the same length and price unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Canceling during the free trial means you will not be charged. No refunds are issued by us directly for partial subscription periods — refund requests are handled by Apple under its own policies.
If you're eligible for a free trial (typically first-time subscribers), it will be clearly disclosed before purchase along with the price you'll be charged once it ends.
4. Your content and data
You retain all rights to the habit names, notes, and other content you create in the app ("Your Content"). Your Content and habit-completion data are stored in your own private iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit; we do not host, access, or claim ownership of it. See our Privacy Policy for full detail. You're responsible for keeping your device and iCloud account secure, since that account is where your data lives.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to: reverse-engineer or decompile the app beyond what's permitted by applicable law; use the Service for any unlawful purpose; interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure; or attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service.
6. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that using Patterns will result in any particular habit, behavior, or health outcome. Habit-formation timelines mentioned in the app are estimates based on general research, not a guarantee for any individual.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Patterns and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the 12 months preceding the claim.
8. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete the app at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to the Service for violation of these Terms. Deleting the app does not automatically cancel an active subscription — cancel separately in your Apple ID subscription settings to stop future billing.
9. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local consumer-protection law requires otherwise.
