Privacy Policy
Patterns is built to collect as little as possible. This page covers two separate things: this marketing website (trypatterns.app) and the Patterns iOS app. Short version — the website stores only the email address you give us for the waitlist, and the app keeps your habit data in your own private iCloud account, never on a server we run.
1. Who we are
Patterns ("we," "us," "our") makes the Patterns iOS and iPadOS habit-tracking app and operates this website at trypatterns.app. For any privacy question, contact privacy@trypatterns.app or support@trypatterns.app.
2. What this website collects
The waitlist form on trypatterns.app collects:
- Your email address, so we can notify you when Patterns launches on the App Store.
- Basic request metadata (IP address, timestamp) purely to rate-limit and filter spam submissions to the waitlist form. This is not linked to your identity beyond fraud prevention and is not used for tracking or advertising.
We don't use cookies, third-party analytics, or advertising trackers on this website. There's no ad pixel, no session replay, no cross-site tracking script. If that ever changes, we'll update this policy first.
If we send you a confirmation or launch-announcement email, it's sent through Resend, our transactional email provider, from an address at trypatterns.app — never from a generic third-party sending domain. Resend processes the email address solely to deliver that message and is bound by its own data processing terms as our sub-processor.
3. What the Patterns iOS app collects
The Patterns app itself is built to need nothing from you but an Apple ID you already have. Specifically:
- No account system. There's no Patterns account, email, or password inside the app.
- Your habit data stays in your private iCloud. Habits, completions, and streaks are stored using Apple's CloudKit in your own private iCloud database. We do not operate a server that stores, reads, or has access to this data — there isn't one to breach.
- No third-party analytics or ad SDKs. The app does not include advertising trackers, and we do not sell or share your data with data brokers or advertisers, because we don't have access to it in the first place.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. Subscription billing for Patterns Pro goes through Apple's App Store and StoreKit; Apple, not Patterns, processes and stores your payment information under Apple's own privacy policy.
- Notifications are scheduled entirely on your device using iOS's local notification system — we don't operate a push-notification server that sees your habit data to decide what to remind you about.
You can permanently delete all your Patterns data — locally and from iCloud — at any time from Settings within the app.
4. Legal basis and your rights
For the waitlist email, our legal basis for processing is your consent, given when you submit the form. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing privacy@trypatterns.app and asking us to delete your email address; we'll do so within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK, or the CCPA/CPRA in California). Because the waitlist email is the only personal data we hold on the website side, exercising these rights is simple: email us and we'll confirm what we have and delete it on request.
5. Data retention
We keep your waitlist email until Patterns launches and you've either received the launch email or asked us to remove you sooner, whichever comes first — and in any case no longer than 24 months. iOS app data lives in your own iCloud account under Apple's retention rules and your own control; deleting it from the app deletes it from iCloud too.
6. Children's privacy
Patterns and trypatterns.app are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted an email to our waitlist, contact privacy@trypatterns.app and we'll remove it.
7. International transfers
Our email service provider (Resend) and hosting infrastructure may process data on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards provided by these processors.
8. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, if the change is significant, note it on the homepage. Continued use of the website or app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
